Morning Peace

I was talking with Seth Primm yesterday morning and he mentioned that he had no idea what our part of the world looks like. It made me remember that it's been a long time since I shared a scenery picture from the mountaintop. So here you go - around sunrise this morning, looking south from the front porch. A moment of peace before the day began.

Good question about Charm City Cakes! I'm not sure if Drew and Kelly's cake was from there or not. I'm guessing no because the hotel has their own catering service and probably a preferred bakery as well. But maybe. I've never actually been to Charm City Cakes - I think it would be a fun field trip!

Zona,

Thanks for the reminder to give the artist credit for his talent. Oh my, what was I thinking? Probably about crawling into bed to read! :-)

As now noted on the blog, his name is Darney Willis. He's a professor at the community college about 45 minutes from our house. I know very little about him, but I do know I love his work. I've only seen 7 of his paintings--6 of iris and 1 of lilies. The three at the hospital are huge--6x6' square perhaps? The other four are hanging locally in town. They are probably 2x2' each. Three are a series of iris (quite a bit more vibrant than the series at the hospital-deep purples and sunflower yellows); the fourth is a stand alone piece depicting a pink/white lily on a colbalt background. He seems to use clean, clear colors with an impresionistic style. To me Willis' style feels very similar to the paintings Monet did during his later years when he was struggling with his eyesight.

And, boy would I love to get my hands on the small iris series. But at $2,000-3,000 each, well, let's just say they won't be mine anytime soon! :-)

Thanks again for the reminder. And, I just realized how much I wrote. Sheesh! All you asked for was his name! :-)

Off for a morning walk to the Farmer's Market. Love, Karyn
